NEW INDUSTRIES.
Unemployment Board Ready to Assist. The Unemployment Board is anxious and willing to assist in the development of new industries which do not compete with existing industries, stated Mr W. Bromley, a member of the Unemployment Board, now visiting Christchurch. Mr Bromley will meet the Christchurch Unemployment Relief Committee to-morrow morning and leave for Wellington in the evening. This morning he was engaged with the officer in charge of the Labour Bureau, Mr R. T. Bailey, in matters arising from the Waimakariri River Trust’s scheme of employment for 100 men at standard rates of pay. Ip the afternoon, with Mr P. R. Climie. another member of the board, he visited New Brighton. Mr Bromley stated there were two essential requirementc before the Unemployment Board gave assistance to a new industry. The first was that the industry should be non-competitive and the second that the applicant for assistance should himself be prepared to in- | vest in it.
