Fate of Racehorses.
Dear Sir,—The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seems to be getting unduly agitated about what happens to racehorses when their- d?y r on the tra< k is passed. Their fate depends, of course, largely on the owner, but *.he ones that are not destroyed mostly get into good hemes and are used as hacks. To quote one case;—A horse broke a bone in its fetlock, but it was kept at the stables for two or three months under treatment till the leg became sound, although the horre continued to have a slight limp. But being a favourite of the owner, it was sent to the owner’s station and is now probabiv used as a shepherd’s hark. In the old days racehorses generally finished up m cabs, but although there rrc- no cabs todav, it does not follow that the horses are ill treated.—l am, etc., STAGE COACH.
