Spectacular Musical Film
for Plaza,
“ Catherine the Great,” the magnificent British film starring Elizabeth Bergner, is now well into the third weeJc of its successful season at the Plaza Theatre. “ Footlight Parade,” a spectacular musical comedy in which Ruby Keeler. Dick Powell, James Cagney and Joan ■*>*■ Blondell are featured, will open at the Plaza Theatre next Saturday. Busby Berkeley, who creates the choruses and dance ensembles for all Hollywood’s big musical pictures, including those made by Eddie Cantor, is said to have excelled himself in “ Footlight Parade. ’ In this film he has worked to the unusually catchy song numbers written by Harry Warren and A 1 Dubin and Sammy Fain and Irving Kahl. “ Footlight Parade ” brings together again two of the screen’s most popular musical, comedy players, Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell. Powell and Ruby Keeler (Mrs A 1 Jolson) have worked so well together in this and previous pictures that Warner Bros, plan to continue pairing them in the future. Frank M’Hugh. Guy Kibbee and Ruth Donnelly form a comedy team without an equal, while Claire Dodd plays the role of a “ gold-digging ” vamp par excellence.
