EXCITING MYSTERY.
“Murder in Trinidad” Opens
at Majestic.
“ Murder in Trinidad,” which opened at the Majestic Theatre yesterday, is a film that should appeal to all types of picturegoers. Excitement, tense drama and the driest of humour all find a place in this baffling mystery play. The setting is Trinidad, a British Crown Cdlony off the coast of Venezuela, South America. Illicit trafficking indiamonds is being carried on, and Bertram Lynch arrives on the scene to try to apprehend those responsible. He has not been long on the island before his assistant is murdered, and an attempt is also made on his own life. The next victim is the Governor, both murders being committed with knives. A prominent Government official and his daughter then disappear, and Lynch is faced with no easy task in finding the solution to the problem. How he fares patrons of the Majestic will he able to see for themselves. The plot is novel, and keeps the beholder guessing until the end. Nigel Bruce is excellent as the apparently slow-witted and slow-moving detective, and he introduces much of the dry humour of the piece. Heather Angel and Douglas Walton have the juvenile leads and supply the romantic interest. Others playing prominent parts in the strong cast are Victor Jory. Murray Kinnell and Pat Somerset. Many of the scenes are particularly realistic, especially those dealing with a crocodile-infested swamp.
Perhaps the best item in an interesting programme of “ shorts ” is “ Dancing Around the World,” featuring Borrah Minnevitch and his harmonica band.
