THUMB SEVERED.

Mr R. J Findlay, of Springfield, severed the thumb of his left hand with an axe yesterday afternoon. He was brought by motor-car over the 25 miles from Porter’s* Pass, where he is employed bv the Public Works Department. to Darfield. and was treated by Dr C. E. Reid. The St John Ambulance was called shortly after 7 o'clock last night and the injured man was taken to the Christchurch Hospital. His condition is satisfactory.
