AIRSHIP TESTS.

Dirigible in Battle Fleet Manoeuvres. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 7,2 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 6. A United Press Association copyright Washington dispatch states that the airship Macon, which, since the destruction of the Akron in a storm on the Atlantic coast in April, 1933, has been out of commission at Los Angeles, is the only Navy dirigible in active service and is now manoeuvring with the main battle fleet in the Caribbean Sea. The results of this test will have an important bearing on the forthcoming decision whether to continue or abandon dirigible construction. Since the Akron disaster, it is learned authoritatively. despite official attempts to minimise the incident, that the Macon has been affected by structxiral difficulties In her recent transcontinental flight from California she sheared two girders, necessitating repairs. The dirigible has also experienced difficulties due to climatic changes affecting her helium gas.
