ART DISPLAY.

British Collection for Christchurch. ON LOAN TO DOMINION. It is now almost certain that the British art collection, at present on its | way for exhibition in Dunedin, will be I brought to Christchurch. The collection has been brought out by the Empire Art Loans Society, .and Mr Basil Honour, secretary of the New Zealand Society of Artists, stated on Saturday evening that arrangements were well in hand for showing the collection in Christchurch The cost of bringing the collection here had been subscribed to more than £2OO and now less than £IOO would be required. It was proposed to use the Durham Street Art Gallery, and this had already been booked for a month from June 11. It was confidently expected, said Mr Honour, that arrangements in Auckland would be made to allow the exhibition to be shown here for a month Mr Honour stressed the fact that the exhibition was the most important that Christchurch artists had ever had the opportunity of seeing It would be a great mistake to allow the exhibition to pass Christchurch by. The action of the Empire Art Loans Society, in arranging for the tour, was, moreover, deserving of the fullest support. It was greatly to be hoped that many collections of a similar kind would be sent to the colonies from time to time. Those interested had already formulated a project for securing an exhibition of great masters of both the English and Continental schools.
