REQUESTS REJECTED.

Proposals for Improving Tram Service. Requests to the Christchurch Tramway Board that the Northcote bus be restored, that earlier Sunday morning trams be run and that a full service on holidays be run on the Bryndwr bus, came before the board at its meeting this afternoon. A report received from the Works and Traffic Committee dealing with the requests was adopted. 'The report stated that in view of the fact that heavy losses were experienced on the Northcote bus and that a through, bus service from Belfast was now in use, the committee could not accede to the request. To bring cars in from all terminals to connect with the 9 a.m. train to Lyttelton and following trams to the seaside would cost £364 a. year. After careful consideration the committee could not see that increase in revenue to that amount would result and therefore with regret was compelled to turn down the suggestion. For financial reasons also the request concerning the Bryndwr bus had to be declined.
