WEEK-END FISHING.

Fair Sport Enjoyed in the Selwyn.

Anglers who visited the Selwyn during the week-end met with fair success. The fish were of good size, running from 41b to 61b. A feature of the fishing is that there appears to be a fresh run of fish from the lake every evening. It is probably the first movement of the fish towards the headwaters for spawning, though the fish are in excellent condition and neither soft nor gravid. Most Canterbury streams are well patronised, for fishermen are getting in as much sport as possible before the closing of the season at the end of the month. No reports are yet available from the south, but one angler said he had heard that there had been fair sport. Many salmon fishermen have, apparently, given it up as a hopeless job, and there were no salmon anglers at the mouth of the Waimakariri yesterda}-.
