TINWALD STOCK SALE.

(Special to the “ Star.’’) ASHBURTON, April 10. There was a heavy yarding of fat sheep at the Tinwald sale to-day, and the quality on the average was fair. Although prices were on a par with those realised at the Ashburton yards before the holidays, they were not up to those of the last Tinwald sale on March 20. Both butchers and freezing buyers operated freely. Up to noon the best price for ewes was 16s 4d for a pen of five sold on account of Mr J. M. Johnston (Eiffelton) and a pen of eight sold on behalf of Mr L. Prattley (Willowby). The next best, 15s lOd, went to Mr W. J. Skevington. A pen of two other prime lots of ewes sold at prices ranging from 13s lOd to 15s 4d and medium quality down to 12s 7d. The best prime wethers, sold on account of Mr C. Bishop (Wheatstone) brought 24s 9d and two pens of eight and six sold on account of Mr S. Corbect (Wakanui) realised 24s 4d and 23s lOd respectively. Prices for other pens averaged 20s lOd to 23s 9d. A pen of three prime lambs sold on account of Mrs* M. Roach (Eiffelton) brought 26s 4d and six on account of Mr H. Dolman (Willowby) realised 24s Id. Mrs M. Hume (Seafield Road) topped the cattle market with a fat cow at £6. Other sales were: Fat cows £4 to £4 2s 6d, fat heifers £5 10s to £5 15s, fat steers £5 10s, store cows 30s to £2 5«, dairy cows £3 10s to £3 15s. There was a large entry of store sheep.
