WORLD MOTORIST.
Covers 87,000 Miles in a Year. “WE ARE PROSPEROUS.” “ My business territory is the world, and my annual car mileage is 87,000,” said Mr D. Stewart Fraser, export manager of Riley (Coventry), Ltd., a large firm of motor-car manufacturers in Coventry, England, who arrived in Christchurch this morning on a twodays’ stay. Mr Fraser is on his third visit to New Zealand, which he has toured by car and by air. Mr Frase- said he was greatly impressed by the New Zealand road system, which was admirable from an engineering point of view. The roads were cleverly planned and graded, and when they could be given a sealed surface there would be no better system in the world. He had been impressed with the number of beautiful drives in New Zealand. “ The trip I most enjoyed was a moonlight drive to Mount Cook,” he said. Trade Booming. Mr Fraser has encountered almost every hazard a motorist could be called upon to face, except an earthquake. He has had to cope with floods and all sorts of other phenomena of nature. With the exception of the Arctic and Antarctic, he has driven in every continent in the world, and intends to keep on doing it. “ In Coventry we are having a prosperous time,” said Mr Fraser, in reply to a question regarding conditions at Home. “ The British motor trade is booming and, as far as I can gather, other branches of industry are also enjoying greatly improved business.” Mr Fraser will sail by the Maunganui. On arrival at San Francisco, he will drive over the Santa Fe trail to New York, thence to Detroit and Quebec. He will then ship his car to cross the Atlantic.
