Cricket.
Dear Sir, —An object lesson in good sportsmanship, speeding up cricket and making it more attractive to the spectators was given in a final match between Stacey and Hawkers and Veterans. The teams, having met several times during the season, were equal. S. and H. sent the Veterans in. Three wickets fell for eight runs, but after a very slow innings they made 129. Stacey and Hawkers started batting at 4.40 p.m., and lost five for 12, but instead of slowing up the game, they never wasted a moment in sending in their men and, of course, lost the game. They would most likely have lost in any case, but what a lesson to the real cricketers whose stately measure to and from the wickets in botlh club and representative cricket drives their public to drink—tea.— I am, etc., H.
