Trotting Matches.
Dear Sir, —Having read with disgust the long unsportsmanlike letter signed “ Moving Start Preferred,” I could not resist having a few words to say on the subject. I am a New Zealander, and I am quite convinced that the Australians have here two pacers that will win any race they are labelled for. As regards Walla Walla not beating Harold Logan on his merits, in my opinion he made him look like a donkey. For instance, after a heavy stud season in Australia, he travels practically 2000 miles. While Harold Logan is topping off a special preparation he takes his place in the race only a fortnight after arriving here, makes all the pace and puts up a new record, and this correspondent of yours is not convinced that he beat Harold Logan, who has never put up such time; in fact he has had about half a dozen tries for a record and it has taken him all hi 3 time to beat this record from a flying start. I would suggest a match between the best horses in New Zealand, and the winner to meet Walla \Valla in a separate match, each horse to have a pacemaker for a mile, and do the last half-mile alone, and no tote. I think I have an idea as to which would win, as I am sure Walla Walla is easily 2sec better than Harold Logan over a mile.—l am, etc., CONVINCED.
