ONE-PRICE STORES.
Violent Demonstrations in Paris. PARIS, March 26. Violent demonstrations took place yesterday when a new “ one-price ” store was opened. ! No sooner had the doors been thrown open that an angry crowd swarmed in, threw part cf the stock on the floor, attacked the staff and kept on shouting, “ Down with all one-price stores.” The demonstrators were mostly small shopkeepers who felt that their living was threatened by competition from the one-price ” stores. During the whole evening a great crowd stood about in frent of the store in a threatening attitude. Just before the Chamber of Deputies adjourned, a law was passed providing for the closure of all “ one-price ” stores within three months. This law, however, still requires the consent of the Senate which at present is disinclined to give approval.
