“WHITE” WEDDING.
.To Take Place in Rarotonga.
The approach of the first “white” wedding in Rarotonga for many years is causing great excitement in the little community. -Both the bride, Miss Billie Strachan, and the bridegroom, Mr John Ainger, are from Christchurch. Mr Ainger is connected with the Cook Island Trading Company, and his bride-to-be will sail from Wellington by the Maunganui on April 16. The French nuns who live on the Cook Islands will undertake the ‘decoration of the little Roman Catholic Church at Rarotonga, where the service will take place, and they are also teaching the church organist just how the Wedding March is played. It will be a “white” wedding in more than one respect, for both bride and bridegroom will wear the colour which usually is conventional for the bride only. The bridegroom will wear white duck, and the bride Swiss organdie muslin, light and sympathetic to the heat. As for her trousseau, Miss Strachan has already received many letters of advice from the islands telling her just what and what not to bring with her. Mr M’Kegg, manager of the Cook Islands Trading Company, will give the bride away.
