Gatherings Held in Town and Country, COMING-OF-AGE CELEBRATED. A pleasant evening was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. Sinclair. Aylmer Street, Spreydon, to celebrate the coming-of-age of Miss Ann Baretta, of Spreydon. Dancing and games were enjoyed and items were given by Mr Jack Prentice, Lyndhurst. At supper, Mr .R. Sinclair presented Miss Baretta with the customary key. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs A. Sinclair, Misses Ann Baretta, Agnes Baretta. Gwen Jagger, Frances Murray (Dunedin), Dorothy Sinclair, Sarah Baretta, Ada Barclay, Milly Edwards, Molly Bennett and Eunice Steinmetz; Messrs F. Kirwan, M. Skidmore, x Sinclair, J. Prentice (Lyndhurst), J. Hurley, I. Steinmetz, G. Bruce, M. Sinclair P. Carmine, S. Bourner and C. Harwood. Selwyn Kindergarten Party. Th e fortnightly 500 card afternoon of the Selwyn Free Kindergarten was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday. The prize-winners were Mesdames Roberts, Crofts and Rennie. Afternoon tea was served by members of the committee. Mesdames Hartigan and Wootton donated the prizes. Among those present were: Mesdames Pariane, Rennie, Crofts, Thompson, R hodes, Robinson. Kirdy, Griffiths, Roberts and Miss Griffiths. Flag 500 Evening. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly flag 500 evening held in the Wharenui School on Thursday. The prize-winners were: Mesdames F. Sheahan and J. Chisholm and partner t * M^ ss > H. Hawthorne and Messrs W. L. Macpherson and M Wallis 2. Mr F. D. Sheahan was M.C. Social at Wharenui. The fortnightly euchre tournament and dance was held in the Wharenui School on Saturday evening, when there was again a good attendance. The prize-winners at euchre were: Men, Mr Stanton 1, Mr Sprott 2; women, Miss E. Bull 1, Mrs F. Morrison 2. A lucky number comoetition was won by Mrs L. F. Wallis. * Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr Radford and Miss Williams and Mr Gates and Miss N. Sheahan, and lucky spot dances were won by Mr Higgins and partner and Mr Terry and Miss Thompson. During the evening Mrs M. Wood (Timaru) contributed a vocal solo. Dancing was enjoyed to music provided by Stamler’s band. Mr F. D. Sheahan was M.C. Twenty-first Birthday Party. To mark the coming-of-age of their daughter, Vera, Mr and Mrs C. Campbell recently gave an evening party at their home in Linwood Avenue. The guests were entertained with many games and competitions and dar.cing was also enjoyed. The guest of honour who was presented with a gold key by her father, wore a yellow floral taffetas frock with a matching ccatie. Competitions were won by Mr and Mrs E. Summers, Mesdames K. Walters and L. Pullen and Mr B. Connor. Others present were: Mesdames Campbell, W. Keen. E. Eastwood, W. Mackeral. J. Bradding, ,T. Hinchey, Misses M. Campbell, D. and I. Connor, M. Connor, W. Keen, W. Foreman, P. Walters. I. Pullen, Messrs G. Walters, C. Campbell, H. Pullen. S. Walters, R. Black, G. Feilding, D. Connor, J. Hartigan and A. Walker.
