MANAWATU TROTS.

Exhibition by Harold Logan. MINOR EVENTS REVIEWED. (Special to the ** Star.*’) WELLINGTON, April 5. With the transfer of venue from Ashhurst to the well-appointed and easily accessible Awapuni racecourse, the Manawatu Trotting Club’s annual meeting to-morrow promises to reach the highest level in the history of the light-harness sport in the district. Previously the trotting was at Awapuni, but since 192 G the club has had to hold its meetings at Ashhurst. This year the Manawatu Racing Club has again given the trotting people the right to race at Awapuni, and the change back should be most beneficial to the trotting sport. The programme and classes are similar to last year’s, with a slight tightening of the Manawatu Trotting Cup and the fast mile and a quarter event. The acceptance is one of the best the club has yet had, and keen racing is thus assured. The totalisator will operate on the single-pool s\'stem, with three dividends in fields of nine or more runners, and two dividends in fields of six, seven or eight runners. The course at present is in perfect order. A special feature will be the exhibition trot by the Dominion’s champion pacer Harold Logan. The main event is the Manawatu Cup, for which a field of nine has accepted. After his Hawera success Hard Words may be the favourite, but the consistent if not too genuine Smoke Screen, who was not racing at Hawera, should fully extend him. Lady Author, Highland Derby, Special Sun and Belle o’ Mine among trotters will have prospects as well at their best. Belle o’ Mine was the winner of this race from Special Sun last year. A similar sized field has paid up for the fast sprint, the President’s Handicap. With no Donum engaged. Smoke Screen has a good chance of improving on his Wanganui seconds here. Those backed to stop him will include Guymond, Oro’s Pride, Highland Derby and Special Sun. Among horses in demand will be: Awapuni Handicap (for trotters) Bell Heather and Ohinemutu. Ladies’ Bracelet—Jester and Guy Zolock. Pohangina Handicap—Aerial Bojand Golden Oaks. Manawatu Cup—Hard Words and Smoke Screen. Longburn Handicap—Greatfast and Guv Zolock. M’Donald Handicap (for trotters) Earl Bingen and Guy o’ Mine. Dash Handicap—Lislea and Bolinda King. President’s Handicap—Smoke Screen and Guymond. The card is:— Noozk AWAPUNI HANDICAP, of 55 sovs. Unhoppled trotters. Class 3.51. One mile and a half.

MODERATE PRICES. Second Day of Yearling . Sales. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, April 5. The yearling sales were continued today. Bidding was not so brisk. The progeny of Dark Fox, offered on account of Sir Hugh Denison, averaged 215 guineas for five fillies and one colt. The Rand wick trainer Jack King paid 300 guineas for a brother of Clever Fox, winner of the Anniversary Handicap, and Colonel Rutledge paid 260 guineas for a nice filly'. The demand for Bullhead stock was disappointing. The top price, 280 guineas, was paid by W. Sweeney, of Tasmania, for a brown colt, while 250 guineas was paid by H. Foster, of Sydney, for a chestnut colt. Other Bullheads ranged from 40 to 190 guineas. Stock by Dignity made from 35 guineas to 210. A chestnut colt by Tippler (imp.) from Trice, by Three, was sold to Wright, Stephenson and Co., New Zealand, for 150 guineas.
