NEW FLORINS.
First Shipment Arrives in Wellington. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 17. The first shipment of new two shilling pieces for use in the Dominion arrived in Wellington by the Rangitiki. A sharp finish and an attractive design are characteristics of the new coin. On the obverse side of the florin is the image of thd King, while on the reverse side is the representation of a kiwi. No time is being lost in distributing these coins, and the first of them will go intoj circulation to-day. The Rangitiki’s shipment of florins is valued at £139,600. Of this quantity £65,000 worth are for Wellington and the remaining £74,600 worth for Auckland. The florins for Christchurch and Dunedin are aboard the Hororata, which sailed from Home on January 5. The Hororata’s consignment is valued at £70.400, of which £35,900 will go to Christchurch, and £34,500 worth to Dunedin. Like the new halfcrowns and sixpences already in circulation, the florins have been made from quarternary alloy. The first of the shillings and threepences are on the water.
