BANDS’ ASSOCIATION.
The quarterly meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Bands’ Association was held in the Young Men’s Christian Association rooms last night, when Mr J. Noble presided. The Akaroa Silver Band was granted affiliation. The meeting unanimously passed a resolution moved by Mr R. B. Hean and seconded by Mr J. Lloyd which read: “ This meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Bands’ Association hears with pleasure that the Woolston Band contemplates attending the band contest at Ballarat in November on the occasion of the Melbourne centenary. The proposal meets with entire approval, and this association pledges its support and co-operation in any movement which may be inaugurated to achieve the attendance of the band at Ballarat. It is the association’s belief that the Woolston Band would have more than a reasonable chance of winning honours for New Zealand.” This motion was heartily endorsed by the delegates from Ashburton, Geraldine, and the local bands.
