GIRLS’ CRICKET.
Canterbury Team Play The Rest. Prior to its departure for Wanganui on Monday, the Canterbury girls’ representative team to-day played a match against The Rest at Malvern Park. The teams were:—Canterbury: Misses R. Symons (captain), B. Te Rangi (vicecaptain), J. Webster, D. Preece r M. Preece. M. Marks, P, Taylor, E. Berland, E. Jones, M. Ivenncrly, E. Hooper and V. Belworthy. The Rest: Misses M. Richards (captain), M. Sisson, J. Gray, E. Wormald, H. Woodham, A. Sibley, K. Sullivan, R. Cursons, J. Head, B. Fe llowes, F. Campbell, J. Blackmoi’e and N. Nealey. Canterbury batted %first, J. Webster and M. Marks opening to A. Sibley and
B. Fell owes. Miss Marks, however, was dismissed, played-on, for two runs, and M. Preeee went to the crease. Scoring was painfully slow, both bats displaying far more caution than the bowling warranted, and only twenty runs were up after an hour’s play. B. Te Rangi livened play considerably, but after a bright twelve her innings was cut short by a smart return from G Sibley. None of the batting was impressive and most of the players were going for low scores. The best feature of the play was the keen fielding which resulted in four players being run out and one caught, an excellent catch by J- Blaekmore in slips. M. Preeee made twenty, the highest score, but she failed to take opportunities and It was due largely to her lack of enterprise that Miss Te Rangi was run out. At 4.40 the team was all out for 61 runs. A. Sibley with three for 7 was the most effective bowler for The Rest.
