Pairs Championship of Centre. OPENING ROUNDS. Conditions were ideal this afternoon for the opening rounds of the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s champion of champions’ pairs competition. (Special to the “Star.”) RUNANGA, February 17. The West Coast bowling tournament was continued In ideal weather. Results:— CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS. First Round —Leach 19, Stevenson 16. Mercer 16, Floyd 11. Second Round—Mercer 19, Leach 14. Floyd 20, Stevenson 13. Third Round—Floyd 22, Leach 12. Stevenson 19, Mercer 9. Mercer (Greymouth) and Floyd (Reefton), with two wins each, met in the final. In* the first head Floyd was two up. and in the second head Mercer scored one. In the third head, whei\ Floyd was lying two, Mercer burnt the head, and in the re-play Floyd scored a single. Mercer got Into the lead in the fourth head with a three, but after the ninth head the scores were:—Floyd 7, Mercer 6. Mercer had the advantage in the remaining heads and gradually drew away from his opponent, the game ending with the scores: Mercer 19, Floyd 11.
