CAUSTIC FRENCH CRITIC
British Art Exhibition “ Bombastic.” LONDON, February 9. A French critic describes the London exhibition of 1000 years of British art as “ icy', -without passion or joy, and, excepting for a few landscapes, bombastic and insincere.” He attributes this to history. “ Since the Norman Conquest, England has been minus the good influence of invasions, while the Puritan movement has been a definite obstacle to progress in artistic taste. England does not possess a single sculptor worthy of the name, while all her painters lack the- genial enthusiasm of French and Italians.”
