“My greatest impression of New Zealand so far is the general feeling I have gathered of better times ahead, that things were on the move and an improvement could be looked for.” said Mr W. J. Fernie, an English tourist now in Christchurch, speaking to a reporter. “ That impression was gathered even before the wool sales. There was a steady improvement reflected in markets in England at the time I left. There was also a greater feeling of confidence all round.”
