Mr R. Semple, M.P., will be in Christchurch on Sunday. Sir Andrew Russell arrived from the north this morning. Guests at the New City Hotel include Messrs R. S. M’Grath and J. R. Buxton (Melbourne). Messrs H. W. Kitchingham (Greymouth) and G. E. Ollivier (Sydney) are guests at the Royal Hotel. Messrs J. G. Morgan (Melbourne) and R. C. Reider (Wellington) are guests at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr Edward Anderson, of Auckland, arrived this morning. He is at the United Service Hotel. Mr R. W. Hawke, M.P., was a passenger for Wellington by the Rangatira last evening. He will return on Saturday. Messrs C. M. Draper (Dunedin), J. A. M’Dougall (Martinborough) and W. J. Plowden-Wardlaw (Wellington) are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Messrs A. F. Turnbull (Wellington), H. Taylor (Melbourne) and R. K. Stokes (Sydney) are registered at the United Service Hotel. The Rev Father Fahey and the Rev Father B. Harrington, of South Dunedin, are proceeding to New South Wales to take up work in the Bathurst district. The Rev G. A. Young, formerly vicar of Foxton, New Zealand, has been appointed by the Bishop of Peterborough to the rectory of Aston-le-Walls, Northamptonshire. Messrs A. W. Wesley, A. J. Kingsland, E. W. Gumblev and J. E. Salisbury, the Invercargill swimming representatives, are guests at the New Citv Hotel. At a meeting of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers’ Association last night, Messrs F. W. Sisson, C. H. Dyer, and G.’ Mottram were nominated for membership of the Canterbury Fireblight Committee. The Rev J. H. Haslam, of Hamilton, has been elected president of the 1935 Methodist Conference! Mr J. C. Johnson, of Te Awamutu, has been elected vice-president of the present Conference. The annual conference of the Gas Institute of New Zealand, Incorporated, will be held at Invercargill next week, when the delegates from Christchurch will include Messrs J. J. Hurley (president-elect), H. C. Ridley and W. O. R. Gilling. , Mr A. Donald Paterson, of British Pavements (Canterbury), Ltd., who has been absent from Christchurch for eighteen months on a business visit to England, arrived at Wellington bv the Rangitiki last night, and is expected to reach Christchurch at the end of the week. Mr Cecil Harrington Hearn has been appointed secretary and chief executiye officer of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society, in succession to the late Mr James Pullar. Mr C. E. Melville has been appointed inspectorgeneral and will leave for England shortly for an extended period. Messrs S. J. Moore, H. T. Webb and W. H. Winsor will represent the Canterbury Builders’ Association at the annual conference of the New Zealand Builders’ Federation, which will be held in Dunedin next week. Mr J. W. Graham, of Christchurch, is president of the federation.
