Fanciers Discuss Show Schedule. MEETING OF SOCIETY. (Special to the ** Star.'*) ASHBURTON, February 14. A meeting of the General Committee of the Ashburton Fanciers* Society was held last evening, Mr \V. li. Robinson presiding. Mr G. H. Nicoll, chairman of the executive, reported on business transacted by the executive, and recommended that a remit be forwarded to the next conference, “ That four exhibitors, instead of six, qualify for the championship.” The report was received and the remit was approved. The Schedule Committee brought down the revised schedule for the show. It was decided to add extra classes in unfiighted canaries and to refer the photography and rabbit sections back to the Schedule Committee. The secretary reported that, on receipt of notice from Mr R. Pearce, a meeting was called for January 29 to confer with the Toy Dog and Cat Club in arranging a date for its show. He had asked Mr G. Bundy to be the society's representative. Mr Bundy forwarded his report on the meeting and it was decided to thank him for attending on the society’s behalf. Allenton School Committee.

At a meeting of the Allenton School Committee (Mr E. C. Bathurst presiding), it was reported that the school reopened with a roll number of 253. There had beer, no change in the per manent staff, but the school had now three probationary assistants instead of one, Miss Logan, Miss C. Browne and Mr C. Wills, who would be at the school for the wTi'ole year. It was agreed to hold an excursion to Timaru on Saturday, March 3, in conjunction with the woollen mills. It was reported that the staff was arranging for a dance in the school on February 24 in aid of the school queen. Messrs Moore and Boothrovd were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. Dominion Band Contest. The following members of the Ashburton Silver Band will leave on Saturday evening to take part in the Dominion band contest, which commences in Wellington on Monday: Lieutenant H. T. J. Osborne, B-flat cornet championship; Bandsman S. G. Teale, B-flat cornet championship: Bandsman B. Miller, solo, boys under seventeen, tenor horn solo; Bandsman T. Miller, euphonium solo; Bandsman E. Withell, 88-flat bass solo; Bandsman L. Porter, baritone solo. Personal. Sir John Sandeman Allen, chairman of the Commerce Committee of the House of Commons, paid a brief visit to Ashburton to-day on his way south. Mr H. A. Knight, who resigned from the position of president of the Ashburton Relief Workers* Union, was re-elect-ed at a meeting of the union last evening. Messrs E. F. Nicoll and R. Clark, retiring directors of the Ashburton Permanent Building and Investment Society, have been nominated for a further term.
