The road through the Otira Gorge is being improved extensively and a substantial bridge that will carry motor traffic is being built over Pegleg Creek. The new structure is being constructed to withstand the huge volume of water that pours down the creek when heavy rain occurs in the mountains. The new bridge shortens the distance to some extent and will be appreciated by all using the road.
