Position in New Zealand Factories. The statement that in the manufacturing industries the numbers were down by 15,000 hands was made by Mr F. L. Hutchinson in his presidential address at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association last evening. “Our national efforts should be towards re-absorbing these workers into our factories, and also towards providing for the girls and youths leaving school each year,” said Mr Hutchinson. “Urban industrial development is essential,” he said, “but no such development can take place without manufacturers being sure of having the local markets for their products. “No one will invest in manufacturing unless sure of an outlet for goods produced.
