Fat Sheep Values Rise Sharply. SUPPLY INSUFFICIENT.* Due to a short yarding, there was a sharp rise of from 2s to 3s a head in values of fat sheep at the Addington stock sale yesterday. The yarding was of 3800 head, compared with 5200 at the previous sale. Some exceptionally good quality in steers from the North Island was included in the beef section, where values were on a par with last work’s. Good vealers advanced in value by from 7s to 8s a head. Competition was keen for yearlings and fresh cows in the store cattle pens, but dairy cattle had a dragging sale. Pork was easier owing to the decline in London values. 7at Cattle. Ordinary wethers 18s to 20s 6d. Light wethers 15s 6d to 17s 6d. Extra prime heavy ewes to 30s lOd. Prime heavy ewes 22s 6d to 24s 6d. Prime medium-weight ewes 19s to 225. Ordinary ewes 16s 6d to 18s 6d. Light ewes 13s to 16s. Vealers. There was a small entry of vealers. the quality of which was mixed. All good calves sold at an advance of from 7s to 8s a head. The short entry of mutton was partly responsible for the rise. Top price was £5 11s. Store Cattle. The entry of store cattle was of medium size, made up mostly of yearlings and odd cows. The attendance of buyers was small but competition was keen for yearlings and fresh cows. Three and four-year-old Shorthorn steers brought from £4 to £5 2s 6d: yearling heifers 35s to 50s; fresh cows 20s to 47s 6d; old cows, 12s to £1; potting bulls to £4 ss; yearling bulls to £2 10s. There was a medium entry of store pigs, consisting chiefly of medium and large stores. Late rates were maintained over a steady sale. Values were:— Weaners, 13s to 14s 6d. Good weaners, to 16s. Slips, 14s to 16s. Medium stores, 16s 6d to ISs 6d. Good stores, to 265. Sows in pig, £2 15s to £3.
