VOLUNTARY LABOUR.
Effort to Fill Ashley Relief Camp for the Married. An effort is being made by the Officer in Charge of the Labour Department at Christchurch (Mr R. T. Bailey) to fill the Ashley relief camp for married men with voluntary- labour. This fact was mentioned this morning by Mr Bailey, who pointed out that 29 additional men had volunteered for the camp. The men will remain in camp during the time they are working out their mcnthlv ration of work, but they will be transported to and from their homes at week-ends. No buses are being provided for day men, who still remain firm in their request for the provision of transport. Those men who did not elect to travel to the camp yesterday are being treated as voluntary unemployed by- the Labour Department.
