LATE MRS J. A. BROWN.
Death of Well-known Social Worker. Returned soldiers will regret to hear of the death of Mrs John Alfred Brown, which occurred suddenly at her residence, “Hethersett,” Fendalton, on Monday last. Mrs Brown was the wife of the late John Alfred Brown, eldest son of the late John Thomas Brown of Mount Thomas Station. She was the youngest daughter of the late Richard Harper Willis, for many years Collector of Customs at Hobart. She is survived by one daughter, Miss M. G. Brown, and three sons, Messrs A. E., P. H. W. and G. B. Brown. Mrs Brown was a regular visitor to Rannerdale Home and also to the returned soldiers in the Christchurch Hospital. She was also interested in social work, and was vice-president of the Humanitarian and Anti-vivisection Society up to the time of her death. The funeral took place at the Burwood Churchyard, and was attended by relations and a large number of friends. The service, which was held in the Church, was conducted by the Very Rev Dean Julius, assisted by the Rev F. B. Redgrave and the Rev C. A. Tobin. Dr T. L. Crooke was the organist.
