GARMENTS FOR NEEDY.

Work of Avonside Girls’ High School. Many garments made by pupils of the Avonside Girls’ High School were collected at the end of the week for distribution to various charity organisations in the city. Miss M. Samuel, lady principal of the school, stated that altogether 483 garments had been made or renovated by the pupils. These included knitted and crocheted garments for babies and many warm clothes for older children. The baby clothes were taken to the Plunket rooms for distribution on Saturday, and the remaining ones are to be given to Nurse Maude to-day. There are also several children’s books and numbers of bottles for Nurse Maude; quantities of old linen brought by the pupils will be given either to the * Plunket Society or to Nurse Maude. Each year the pupils of the Avonside Girls’ High School supply large quantities of these warm garments to the Plunket Society and to Nurse Maude’s organisation. The various schools in Christchurch are doing some good work in this direction. Many of the garments supplied are of the daintiest description and all of them are made from good wool, so that they cannot fail to keep children warm.
