“GRAND HOTEL.”
Film to be Taken of Patrons at Regent.
Picture-goers will enjoy an unusual experience in the theatrical and social circles of Christchurch on the opening night of “Grand Hotel,” the eagerly awaited production of the Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer studios, at the Regent Theatre on the night of January 21. Following the example set on Broadway, when Hollywood stars attended the premiere opening, such famous actors and actresses as Marlene Dietrich, Lionel Barrymore, Joan Crawford and Wallace Beery registering their names in the “hotel” book and speaking over the air, the management of the Regent Theatre has arranged a Christchurch opening night of special attraction. Proceedings will follow the Hollywood plan except that local celebrities and well known visitors will be substituted for the actors and actresses. Nearly 1000 feet of film will be taken of guests and patrons as they arrive in the theatre lobby. Loud speakers will be installed in the theatre and proceedings will be broadcast. A screening of the Christchurch premiere opening will be shown at the next change of programme at the Regent.
