As an instance of the hardships of some ex-service men, the chairman of the meeting of returned soldiers at Papanui last night (the Rev F. T. Read) stated that recently he was asked to visit a man in distress. lie found him in a room that led out of a washhouse, ten feet by six, and paying six shillings a week for the room out of a oension of ten shillings a week.
