NOVEL OUTINGS.

Mystery Hike and Tramp in Moonlight.

Two novel outings, a mystery hike and a moonlight walk, which have been arranged by the Railway Department, already seem to have their success guaranteed.

The route for the moonlight walk will be from Motukarara to the Cashmere tram terminus. Leaving Christchurch at 4.45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, the trampers will be guided from Motukarara back to the tram by railway officers. The walk is well known to a number of Christchurch enthusiasts and has been specially selected by the department because of the advantages which it possesses, both from the point of view of the scenery and the varied nature of the walk. Xo one yet knows where the mystery hike on Sunday, August 14, will lead trampers. Further possible routes have been tried out by experts during the past week, and the Railway Department now has a fine selection of tramps that will suit the purpose.

Until the train is ready to leave Christchurch, not even the guard or the engine crew will know of its destination. The final choice of the route will be made by highly-placed officers, and until the train stops the passengers will not know, how far they are going. On alighting they will be directed by railway officers to another point, some miles distant, where the train will be waiting to bring them back to Christchurch.
