THE SOCIAL ROUND.

Gatherings Held in Town and Country. OLD-TIME SOCIAL. A successful old-time social was held at St Paul’s Schoolroom, Papanui. Old fashioned dresses were worn by many, and old-time songs and dances were features of the evening. Mr W. A. Wilson was M.C. Songs were given by Miss Church and Mr and Master Tomkies, and Master Torrikies gave a mouthorgan solo. The accompaniments were played by Mr Barnes.

Messrs Wilson, Leadbetter, Hartley, Rodie, Tomkies, Greenslade, Somerset, Baxter, Barnes, Wood, Clark, Syrne, Davies, Quinn, Price, Flanagan and Berger. Kaneke Club’s Evening. Miss Bridgman was hostess at the last evening of the Kaneke Club. Competitions were won by Messrs Collins, Tompkins and Forrester, and Miss Ida Cooper contributed elocutionary items. The play, “Thirty Minutes in a Street,” created a great deal of amusement, the parts being taken by Mesdames Kent, Magmness «and Millar, Misses Blackham, Bridgman, Bunker, Chiide, Collins, Forrester, Gilpin, Moore, Tompkins and Wright. A oneact play, “ The Subjection of Kezia,” in which Misses Freeman and Mesdames Orchard and Maginness took the parts, concluded the evening. Sunbeam Kindergarten Social. A gathering of parents and friends of the Sunbeam Kindergarten was held recently. The programme included interesting competitions and bridge. This was one of a series of gatherings to advance the interests of the kindergarten movement in Christchurch. Miss Hull, principal of Christchurch Kindergartens, was the guest of the evening. Mr Molen was the winner of the cushion competition. Social at Spreydon.

The West Spreydon School Committee’s fortnightly dance and social held in the schoolroom, Lyttelton Street, on Saturday night, was well attended. Music for old and new dances was supplied by the Row-Wallace Band. The prizes for the novelty dances were won by Miss Tait and Mr Tait and Mr Morris and Mrs Morris. Competitions were won by Mrs Cross, Mrs Kibblewhite, Mr Lawson and Mr Unwin. Dance at New Brighton. ~ A dance held in St Faith’sParish Hall, New Brighton, last evening, by the St Faith’s Boys’ Bible Class. The hall had been decorated by Mesdames W. Fitchett, W. Cattcrmole and A. Branch, and the committee responsible for the aYrangements comprised Messrs R. Fitchett, L. Ballantyne, R. Pockson, P. Warner, S. Besley and S. Thompson. The music for the dancing was supplied by Miss Maisie Ottey and and Miss A. 11. Bellas. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Thelma Harvey and Mr D. Turner. The prizes were donated by Messrs G. V. Hulme and 11. Bollington. Coming-of-age Party.

A delightful party, at which Mr and Mrs H. Rowsell were host and hostess, was held in St Albans recently, in honour of their daughter, Milly. About fifty friends spent an enjoyable evening in games and competitions, which were won by Miss P. Hodge and Mr J. Drummond, Miss D. Thurston and Mr A. Piper. Mr W. Grammer was M.C. At supper the usual toasts were honoured, and the guest of honour was presented with the customary key. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs H. Rowsell, Mr and Mrs G. T. Thurston, Air and Mrs E.
