TRAM AGREEMENT.
Clause Covering Casual Workers. In connection with the statement made by the chairman of the Tramway Board (Mr E. IT. Andrews) that the clause covering casual workers which- it was proposed to insert in the new tramway agreement had been explained to the satisfaction of the union representatives, a representative of the union stated this morning that that- might be the case. The fact remained, however, that the experience of the union had been that the law or an industrial agreement was administered according to wording. There was no question of doubt that the wording of the particular clause referring to casual hands allowed the board to do what the secretary of the union had claimed it could do. A meeting of members of the union is to be held on Tuesday to receive the report of their representatives who conferred with representatives of the board on Wednesday evening.
