VORACIOUS READER.

Young Clerk Stole Two Books. The fact that a clerk, aged twentyone years, was a voracious reader was advanced by counsel in the Police Court this morning in extenuation of the theft of two books valued at 14s. He pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Carroll said that the accused had frankly admitted stealing the books while visiting the home of a customer on behalf of a cleaning concern . Counsel said that the accused had intended to return the books after he had read them. “ I do not like entering a conviction as the young man does not appear to be of a criminal type,” said Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., in dismissing' the case under section 18 of the Offenders’ Probation Act on condition that he paid 10s to the Court poor box.
