Railway Delays.

To the Editor. ‘Dear Sir, —Surely there will* be some “ please explains ” over the delay caused to the 7.21 train from Lyttelton to-day on the Departmental side. But what of the 300 or 400 workers who had to be at work at 8 o’clock? I suppose that they had to “please explain” at their delay also? To the casual observer the Railway Department goes about its ways in a slip-shod sort of manner. When the train was stuck in the tunnel a rat-power engine was sent in from the Lyttelton end, and in its erfdeavour to pull the train back to the Lyttelton station it filled the tunnel full of smoke and made things very uncomfortable for the passengers. It took nearly half an hour for this engine to haul the train fifty chains. In my opinion, the workers on the 7.21 train this mohning should charge the Department two hours for loss of time, and then perhaps the railway officials would pay more attention to the convenience of the public and avoid further delays.—l am, etc., 7.21 PASSENGER
