“AIDING A MONOPOLY.”
Auckland Protest Against Wheat Duty. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 30 The Auckland Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution declaring that the rate of duty on wheat which is to be imported from Australia should be the same irrespective of the place where it is imported or the purpose for which it is required. Strong comment was passed on the action of the Government in “ virtually aiding and abetting a monopoly ” and imposing a purely revenue duty on wheat at such a time as this.
It was also stated that the poultryindustry was being crushed at the dictates of the southern millers.
