SUCCESSFUL YEAR.

| Horticultural Society Holds Annual Meeting. OFFICERS ELECTED. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Horticultural Society was held last evening, the chairman, Mr O. W. B. Anderson, presiding over a large attendance. The report, as already published, was adopted. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed an excess of Income over expenditure amounting to £l3l 7s 5d on the year’s working. The total balance of assets over liabilities amounted to £6BO 12s 4d. Mr Anderson said the financial position was satisfactory. The membership was now 1400, but there were many resignations coming in. The speaker asked for enthusiasm in enrolling new members to take advantage of the many benefits the society had to offer to those interested in horticulture. It was to be hoped that the membership would be kept up to the thousand mark. The greatest undertaking of the year had been the National Flower Show, which had been most successful. On the recommendation of the executive committee, Messrs R. Nairn and J. W. Humm were elected life members. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, his Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe; president, Sir Robert I-leaton Rhodes; vicepresidents, the Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P..
