CUSTOMS REVENUE.

Petrol Taxation Shows Big Drop. QUARTERLY RETURNS. A decrease of £15,627 in revenue raised from the petrol tax is the most outstanding feature of the Customs returns at Christchurch for the quarter ended yesterday. The revenue from this source for the June quarter last year was £63,833 4s 4d. and for the quarter closed yesterday the return fell away to £48.205 18s. Customs duties for the quarter were up on the return last year by £11,123, but this did not compensate for the drop in petrol tax revenue, and the total receipts of £240,000 for the June quarter were £3979 behind those of the corresponding quarter last year.
