Dawson Cup Match at Greymouth. WESTLAND PLAY WELL. (Special to the “ Star.") GREYMOUTH, June 4. There was a large attendance at Victoria Park to-day for the Westland v. Canterbury Dawson Cup Soccer match. A strong wind was blowing downfield, but conditions were good. Westland won the toss and played with the wind. Canterbury attacked first. D. Sutherland received an injury to his knee and retired, leaving Canterbury w r ith ten men after twenty minutes. Anderson headed in and Malpass sent in. Westland 1, Canterbury 0. Anderson met a cross from the left and sent into the corner of the net. Westland 2, Canterbury 0. Canterbury pressed and fast .and exciting play followed. M’Millan sent in a beautiful shot into the corner of the net. Westland 2, Canterbury 1. The Coast attacked and a wonderful long pass from Cowe was received by Tennent, w’ho headed in. Westland 3, Canterbury 1. There w r as no change in the score at half-time. The final score was:— WESTLAND (holders) 3 CANTERBURY 2 FRIENDLY GAMES. Friendly games only were played by senior Soccer teams to-day. Official competition matches were postponed, owing to the absence of leading club players with Urn Canterbury representative team in ”eymoutli. Lower grade competition matches were played. Scratch players helped to fill Nomads’ and Rangers’ elevens at English Park, and two half-hour spells were played. Goods, M. Wilson, Chaplin and Stoneman scored for Nomads, who won 4-2. A. Wilson and Barnes goaled for Rangers. MARIST v. TECHNICAL. The Marist v. Technical fixture at Richmond Park proved a fiasco. Half an hour after the time set to commence the match, the appointed referee had not turned up, while only four of the Marist team had put in an appearance. Two of these players had come from Lyttelton. It was hard on the Technical team, who were assembled in full strength at the appointed time. A start was made about 3.30, with Marist playing a scratch team made up on the ground, reinforced with Junior club members who had taken part in an earlier game. Chatham Cup Games. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, June 4. In the first elimination match in the Chatham Cup series Maori Hill beat Northern yesterday by 4 goals to 3. The local teams left in are Maori Hill, Seacliff, Mosgiel and Port Chalmers.
