CYCLING.
Amateur Race Held at Papanui. The Papanui Amateur Cycling: Club held a twenty-two-mile road race this afternoon. Twenty-four started, with S. Campbell and J. L. Richards on scratch, conceding- a limit of five minutes. As the race advanced, several riders withdrew owing to the cold wind. With half the distance covered, four laps, the leaders were: R. Blakeway (4m in), R. W. Marks (5 min). J. L. Taylor (4Jmin), F. G. Ayres (4£min), H. W. Skidmore (4min) and A. M. Baxter (4min). S. Conway, L. J. Douglas and R. W. Richards, off the mark, were 3min lOsec in front of J. L. Richards and Campbell. With three laps to go, .Ayres, Skidmore and Taylor were 70sec in front of Conway, Douglas, R. W. Richards and Woolcock. The two scratch men passed a minute later. The race resulted as follows: F. G. Ayres (4£min), time, 63min 31sec 1 J. D. Taylor (4imin), 63min 31 l-ssec 2 H. W. Skidmore (4fnin), 63min 1 2-ssec 3 R. W. Richards (ljmin), 61min 16sec 4 S. Conway (ISmin), 61min 37sec .... 5 D. J. Douglas (ISmin), 61min 17 1- 6 H. C. Woolcock (3min), 62min 32 2- 7 .T. D. Richards (scr). 60min :isec '! ! 8 S. Campbell (scr), GOmin 3 l-ssec . . 9 Fastest time was registered by J. L. Richards.
