HARRIERS.
Baptist Club’s Annual Steeplechase. The annual steeplechase of the Baptist Harriers was held at Riccarton Racecourse this afternoon. The course, as nearly as possible, was the same as that over which the Kennett Cup race will be held a fortnight hence. Very fine performances were those of A. D. Park and L. C. Fulford, who put up fastest and second fastest times respectively. Milner ran an excellent race to win in the splendid time of 19min lOsec, and Bissett, a sixteen-year-old runner, ran second with the excellent time of 19min 30sec. The placings were as follows, with the actual running times as shown:— L. J. Milner (lmin 35sec) 19min 10 sec 1 E. Bissett (lmin 40sec) 19min 30sec 2 H. H. Gray (2min 25sec) 20mln 20sec 3 C. M. Harrison (lmin) 19min 52sec .... 9 G. A. Milne (2min 30sec) 21min 40sec 10 A COMBINED RUN. The Methodist Harrier Club were the guests of the Presbyterian Harrier Club this afternoon. The run was held from St David’s Presbyterian Church, Colombo Street, South. The trail laid by C. MTlroy and J. D. Keay (Presbyterians) led through Spreydon and Halswell and home via Cashmere Hills, a distance of approximately six miles. Eighteen Methodist and thirty Presbyterian harriers participated. The Presbyterial men competing in the Kennett Cup race held a trial run at the Riccarton racecourse. The results of the runsin at St David’s were:— Slow pack—E. Comber (Presbyterian) I, D. Robinson (Presbyterian) 2, A. T. Green (Presbyterian) 3. Intermediate pack—K. Robinson (Presbyterian) 1, D. Polsen (Presbyterian) 2, S. Muss (Presbyterian) 3. Fast pack—C. S. Ell, R. Smith and N. P. Alcorn, all Methodist Club men, tied for first place. There was no racing pack to-day. On behalf of the visitors, Mr C. S. Ell returned thanks to the young ladies of the Church and to the Presbyterian Club for the successful run. Mr M. R. Robinson responded. The next run will be held from the residence of Mr George Smith, 95, Idris Road, Fendalton. Ran. at Xalapol. The Christchurch Harrier Club were invited to the residence of Mr and Mrs D. Kane, Peraki Street, Kaiapoi, this afternoon. Thirty runners followed the trail laid by H. Howarth and F: Clapshaw, over ideal country, a distance of about seven miles. The results of the runs-in were:— Slow pack—A. H. Candy 1, B. A. Barrer 2, J. D. Pascoe 3. Intermediate pack—T. Wilhelm 1, R. M. Kicher 2, J. M’Donald 3. Fast pack—R. M. Barrer 3, L. C. Richards 2. H. S. Bowden 3. Mr E. A. Sayers returned thanks to Mr and Kane for their kind hospitality and Mr Kane responded. Next Saturday a trial run will be held at the Riccarton racecourse over the Kennett Cup course.
