(Received March 5,. 12.25 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 5. The weather is fine for the races. At Flemington, on the tan, Prince Dayton, who has greatly improved, did striding exercise. Fictitious ran two furlongs in 25sec. Spear King and Dawn Patrol did two furlongs in 26?ec. At Caulfield, on the sand, Ammon Ra ran one furlong in 12£sec. King Mart did five furlongs in lmin s*sec. Spear Lad and Lady Pam ran three furlongs in 40sec. Vertigern did two furlongs in 26sec.

WESTLAND RACING CLUB

(Special to the “ Star.”) HOKITIKA, March 5. The committee of the Westland Racing Club met last evening. Mr J. J. M’lntosh, the president, was in the chair. A favourable report was read from the Stipendiary Steward to the Racing Conference on the Christmas meeting.

The Grevmouth Club acknowledged a •message of sympathy in its severe loss by fire at the Omoto racecourse.

The resignation of Mr C. Guthrey was received with regret. The treasurer submitted a statement on the position to date, which evolcod favourable comment. General arrangements were made for the Easter meeting, nominations for which close on March 17. It was decided to hold a race ball on the evening of the races.
