LATE SPORTING.

Trotters Prepare for Holidays. ADDINGTON BUSY. There was a good deal of loose earth on the track at Addington this morning, which helped to take the sting out of the ground, but otherwise the track was in capital order. Trainers at this time of the year are pleased to have the track in its present state. There was a fair amount of useful work done. Kelp, Denver Jack, Brentlight and Salient started off with about a length between them, whilst Warplane was about fifty yards further back. The work out was over two miles, and Kelp finished best, Denver Jack being eased at the finish, and Salient beat Brentlight. Warplane was not seriously sent after the front devision. Locanda Boy, who led Le Thorpe all the way in a mile and a half work out, did not pace too freely, but was better than his companion all the way. Gold Country for Gore. Avenger went out a length in front of Harvest Child, followed by Cyone, whilst Gold Country was four or five lengths in the rear. The field closed up at the end of the first half mile, and the speed was turned on for the last mile. The four finished almost in line, but Avenger was being hard driven, whilst Gold Country and Harvest Child seemed to be going the best at the finish. It was a very smart work out. Chimer, who looks in capital shape, worked about a mile and a half by himself, but he was not sent at top speed. Donard went a little further than a mile and a half and he was not putting much vigour into his work in the concluding stages. Netta Oro and Muriel de Oro worked a mile and a half. The last-named gave Netta Oro about four seconds start, but caught her half a mile from home and beat her rather easily in a good work out. Hard Words was too good for Sunchild, whom he led throughout in a go over a mile and a half. Golden Pedro Pleases. Lohengrin, Morrison, Tempest, Free Advice and Golden Pedro, working right-handed, started off in that order. All of them were well out on the track, being nearer the outside fence than the rails. At the end of a mile and a quarter Lohengrin was pulled up, and a little further on Morrison was steadied, Tempest leading the other two. Soon after the mile and a half was reached Tempest pulled up and Free Advice and Golden Pedro went on for the full two miles. It looked at the finish as though the Australian pacer was superior to his companion. The two milers both paced well, however, and Golden Pedro appears to have improved a good deal. Koro Peter Coming Back. Koro Peter, who has greatly benefited by his spell, led Macaranda throughout a mile and a quarter. Koro Peter showed a lot of speed and the; trotter was on his best behaviour, making no mistakes. He came the last mile at a fine speed. Eugene de Oro and Royal Comrade went away about a length in front of Logan Chief, the trio working a mile and a quarter. The three pacers did their work well and were in line at the finish, the last quarter being done at top speed. Headlight, who looks well at present, was given useful work in saddle, and so was his stable companion, Aleron. Belle Axworthy worked nearly a mile and a quarter, travelling at her best speed. The Auckland mare is in fine order and paced freely throughout her task. Good Work by Trotters. White Satin, Biddy Parrish, Sir Voyage and Surprise Journey, working right-handed, went a mile and five furlongs. At the start Biddy Parrish broke and lost ground, but the others were eased somewhat and she quickly gained her place again. The four trotters went in fine style, White Satin in particular trotting as though her recent work at the pacing gait had done her a lot of good. They were all well towards the outer fence throughout the work out. Festival, who seemed to be pulling very hard, covered a fast mile and a quarter by herself. RICCARTON WORK. Holiday Candidates Move Along. Conditions were favourable for galloping at Riccarton this morning. The No 6 grass was available but most of the work was done on the plough. Riri went about a mile and a quarter. Hoa went with him the first five and Kakara the last mile, which occupied lmin 47sec. Meprisant sprinted three furlongs. Royal Love beat Honeycomb over six furlongs in lmin 17 4-ssec. Rational 11. took 39sec for the last three furlongs of his work. Knocklong and Giggleswick were the same for the last three of five furlongs. Pixie Gold ran six furlongs in lmin 18 3-ssec. Ranelagh easily accomplished a similar task on the grass in lmin 19 2-ssec. Charmeuse was not extended to run six furlongs in lmin 20 2-ssec. On the grass, Grecian Prince beat. Weatherly in a fast run six furlongs, which was completed in lmin 16 3-ssec. Six furlongs was also the journey set Cricket Bat and Ball Dress. They accomplished it in lmin 17sec. Red Heckle and Convoy used the grass for a mile done in lmin 44sec. Zeebrugge and Sailor’s Love galloped six furlongs in lmin 17 3-ssec. High Tor beat Resort over six furlongs in lmin 19 3-ssec. Fleeting Glance worked strongly over five furlongs with some assistance from Rocket. Working gallops over a mile were allotted to Babel and Winsome Hind. Battle Hero beat Lady Valkyrie over half a mile in 53sec, while Verden defeated Oratorious over half a mile in 50sec. Five furlongs in lmin 4sec went down to Lochlaggan. Starshooter went a furlong further in lmin 20 4-ssec. Taku Tama was in front of Monastic at the end of six furlongs run in lmin 18 3-ssec. Limited occupied lmin 8 3-ssec for

Semper Paratus was let off with easy work. Gold Mint and Martian Chief ran six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec. Red Royal went half a mile in 51 3-ssec. Ma Belle Polly and Valrazie got to the end of five furlongs in lmin 6 3-ssec. A furlong further was run by Wise Choice in lmin 18 3-ssec. Unless otherwise mentioned the plough was the track used for the gallops which follow. ELLERSLIE GALLOPS. Good Times Recorded by Cup Candidates. (Special to the " Star.”) AUCKLAND, December 19. The weather conditions were perfect for training at Ellerslie this morning, all the fast w r ork being done on the outside of the course proper. The poles were about 45 feet out from the rails. The going was excellent and some fair times were recorded. The best efforts were those of Golden Wings, Lack and Beacon Fire, who worked during the breakfast interval. Tarporley, Moonfleet, Click Clack, Operatic, Llanore and Silene also registered good times. The Cup candidates, Taneriri and Peter Jackson, were sent a mile and a quarter in company with Sir Mond and Grand Spirit. The final round occupied 2min 7 4-ssec, the last seven furlongs lmin 35 l-ssec and the half-mile 55 2-ssec. Taneriri and Grand Spirit were six lengths in front of the other pair along the back and, although Sir Mond and Peter Jackson lessened the gap, they failed to get up. Taneriri and Grand Spirit were over a length to the good at the finish.
