A fair amount of damage by smoke and water was done to new stock at the bootshop of Woolcock, Ltd., 644, Colombo Street, ) r esterday afternoon. The outbreak was in a stack of rubbish in the rear of the shop. There was no need for the Fire Brigade’s ser-To-morrow Christmas celebrations will be observed at the Rugby Street Methodist Church. The preacher for the occasion will be the Rev W. Rowe, whose morning subject will be “ Hitch Your Waggon to a Star.” A musical festival has been arranged at eventide. A large choir under the conductorship of Mr W. Simpson will render anthems and choruses from “ The Messiah.” The soloists will be Mrs Stallard, Mrs Bates, Mrs Colthart, Miss Joyce Wilkinson, Messrs Clothier and Hindle. Gifts on behalf of the Methodist Orphanage at Papanui will be received, and a thanksoffering in aid of the trust fund will be
