AT WANGANUI
Paratoo Gallops Extra Well. HOLIDAY PROSPECTS. (Special to the '* Star.”) WANGANUI, December 19. W. Rayner left here yesterday for Auckland with Pomp and Midinette. They were both in great heart when they left and they should both run well in their engagements at Ellerslie. The four-year-old Arastar ran six furlongs in lmin 18Isec. This son of Arausio has heaps of pace, and he promises to win a race or two before the holidays are over. Head Lady (J. Barry) from a standing start, covered half a mile in 53. He should be hard to beat in' the Nursery Handicap at Awapuni, as she is a good beginner. Paratoo (J. Barry) started from the mile post and ran the first quarter in 25£. He was then picked up by Knollmere and Pedestal, and the trio raced together to the post, Paratoo’s time for the mile being lmin 46sec—a very good gallop. 1 Paratoo is engaged in the Manawatu Cup with 7.2, and he must be considered a distinct possibility. The Grandcourt gelding, however, is also engaged in the Grandstand Handicap the same day and this may be his mission.
