COMMUNITY SINGING.

A well attended session of community singing was held in the Civic Theatre last evening. Messrs Charles Lawrence and Frank Moran made things lively as joint song-leaders, and had the crowd in a constant state of merriment. They kept up a stream of patter, and sang several songs. Mr Arthur Lilly was at the organ.

Some of the audience had brought combs and paper, and the buzzing note from these musical “instruments” could be heard above the organ. They liked the old favourites, but clamoured for some of the latest jazz when the music was not forthcoming, but the slide with the words of the piece went up on the screen. Finally the song had to be sung without accompaniment.

Nearly £lO was taken at the door. This will be divided equally between the Mayor’s Distress Fund and the Marjorie Alexander Fund.
