CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR.

Conventions of Berlin and Sydney Described. Graphic descriptions of the great international Christian Endeavour con ventions held in Berlin and Sydney recently were given at a rally of members of Christchurch Christian Endeavour Societies held in the Cambridge Terrace Methodist Church last evening. The Rev A. N. Scotter, president of th Canterbury Christian Endeavour Union presided over a large attendance, which included representatives of nearly all the societies in Christchurch. The chairman read an inspiring letter from the Rev Lionel B. Fletcher, of Auckland, Dominion Christian En deavour president, who will be visiting Christchurch on October 19 and 20. The Rev E. W. Batts, one of the New Zealand delegates to the eighth World Convention of the Christian Endeavour Movement held in Berlin last August, recounted his experiences at that great gathering. He said that he joined a party of ninety English, Scottish and Irish delegates and travelled with them to Berlin, where Dr Daniel Polling, of the United States, World President of the Christian Endeavour Movement, was at the head of the gatherings. The huge assembly hall had seating accommodation for over 15,000 people and it was packed every night of the ten days of the convention, large numbers being unable to gain admission. Mr Batts gave a resume of the proceedings at the convention and concluded by conveying Dr Polling’s message, “Double Your Lines.” The Rev Bernard Wilson, who attended the Pacific International Christian Endeavour Convention in Sydney last month, reviewed the proceedings at those gatherings. He said that it was a most inspiring and uplifting convention and though the meetings were held in the Sydney Town Hall which seated 4000 persons, hundreds were turned away each evening.
